Glory Gonzalez

Glory was a very outgoing girl; she always said what she thought without filter. She was the life of the party—she made all of us dance and sing. She loved superheroines, and on her birthday, she would always dress up as one of them.
When she was diagnosed with brain cancer, we tried to explain her illness without too many details. She never complained, cried, or resisted her treatment. She was convinced that she would recover and had great faith that God would heal her. In fact, I have a very beautiful, though also very sad, memory.
We were doing crafts in a room at the place where we stayed across from the hospital, and we could hear the ambulance sirens every time they arrived. She turned to me and asked, “Another ambulance?” And I told her, “Yes, there are a lot of sick people who need help.” She looked at me and said, “Mommy, that’s why God hasn’t healed me yet—because He has so much work, there are many sick people before me, and I have to wait my turn.”
Her words, her little face, broke my heart.
She stopped walking and began losing control of her little body, but she never lost her smile, her expressions of love, or her excitement for life.
She was brave, strong, and resilient. She will always be honored, remembered, and admired by all of us who were lucky enough to have her in our lives.
Being Glory’s parents was the most wonderful thing in our lives, and despite the deep pain, we would never trade the joy of having had her for 9 years.
