Addison Bridges
“Who was Addison Bridges?
I’d like to say Addison was just a normal kid, a common young man with common thoughts, and lived a common life, but the truth is, he was an extraordinary young man who impacted so many people in such a short and remarkable life.
Addison started his faith at a very young age. He became a truly loved son, brother, nephew, friend, and grandson who shined brightly in the hearts of us all. He never really fit into this world because he did not understand evil-only good. From school to church to playing videogames online with his friends,
Addison’s kindness was always evident.
Addison’s major accomplishments-some by choice, some not so much— ranged from his early decision to trust in Jesus Christ to catching a 450lb Goliath grouper in the Florida Keys, to an unforgettable silly string fight with Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, and even meeting thirty-eight famous people and collecting their autographs.
And let’s not forget his $15,000 Pokémon collection—a true source of pride for him. But his greatest accomplishments came from the sacrifice and strength he showed in his heartbreaking fight against childhood cancer. Starting at the young age of two, Addison was given the unimaginable task of battling cancer not just once, but twice. He endured brain surgery, port placement surgery, and several other procedures.
He faced months of chemotherapy, hundreds of needle sticks, radiation, and long grueling hospital stays. “Courageous adversity” doesn’t even do justice to Addison’s battle. “Addison Strong” are the words that always come to mind. Nothing along the way of his battle could ever shake his faith-not even losing function of his right side or his ability to walk.
Seeing him made so many of us stop and ask, “Is my day really that bad?” Today, his light shines down from Heaven as he looks upon us, smiling and patiently waiting for the day we are all reunited.
I’ll leave you with his favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 53:5.
*But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes, we are healed.”
Cancer was defeated, and Addison’s soul was granted eternal life in his victory.
